Can I make a confession?
I don’t always see the bright side of things, in fact if I allow myself to I can delve pretty far into the rabbit hole of pessimism.
Lately, I’ve been in a little bit of a funk, I’m not sure if it’s quarantine, my constant worries of the future, or the fact that I’m not super satisfied in life at the moment. Do you find yourself in a similar situation?
But a couple of days ago, I decided that I’ve allowed myself to wallow in the murkiness of pessimism for far too long and began to pull myself out.
A couple of things that I did were:
- Start to be very mindful about practicing gratefulness again
- Started faithfully reading my bible and praying
- Decided that I was going to be happy again
One thing that I know for sure is that happiness is a decision and while at the moment, I don’t feel fulfilled in my career, I want a bigger home in a warmer climate, and I am over quarantining, I can still make the choice to be happy.
This morning, I took some time to figure out what happiness looks like to God and can i just say it looks a lot different than what the world tells us happiness is!
To God happiness looks like being grateful while in the midst of trials, finding joy in tribulation, and leaning on Him at all times, not our bank accounts or significant others. It is putting our own wants and desires aside to focus on what He wants for our lives and allowing him to fight our battles. So while we may not be where we want to be in our lives at the moment, it may be where we are supposed to be. The trials and tests that we go through in life should serve to bring us closer to Him and we should deal with them in a manner that people of the world see the God in us.
Because I wanted to be able to have something tangible to look at when I wanted to be reminded of what happiness and joy means to Yahweh, I created a list which I’ll link below if you would like to have a copy as well.
God Bless,
Court
